Yes although there is a way to mod them that does not involve crushing them.

They leak at idle.  :P

No seriously though it will be cracked open under vacuum.

Best way is the dodge garage mod, crushing is primitive and doesnt work well.

Few folks have removed the cap and installed shims on the spring, seems to work well.

most people don't know this, but it's possible to modify the 2g valves so that they cannot leak at any boost level.

it's practically free too.

most folks never figured out how the valve actually works. the lower port of the diaphragm is supplied boost pressure via the hollow valve shaft. the trick is to plug the bottom of the valve shaft, drill a separate feed hole on the side of the shaft near the bottom by the valve seat and turn the valve around so the outlet is now the inlet.

voila, it's now a pull-type valve. boost now holds the valve shut. more boost holds it more shut. the valve only opens when there is pressure differential between the top and bottom ports of the diaphragm.

Or you could just buy a stock VW valve for $25 on amazon and have the same thing.

Its that same stupid plastic bov that vw uses on all the 1.8t's, its made by bosch and dirt cheap.  You put 60k miles on one and they might leak, but who the fuck cares when they are so cheap?  They work in push and pull forms.  For a high power application you might want to actually get something "real" but ive ran 2 of these bosch valves in pull form on my old supra and they work great.  Ill find a link...

Also, there is a larger version made of metal that the porsche guys use successfully up to 850hp, I think those are like $120.

get the one with part # ending in 710 N. that's the upgraded version, the others tend to tear diaphragms.
