how can u tell if injectors are bad or going bad?
« on: January 20, 2014, 06:46:15 PM »

Been having a ton of problems with this car. Pulled the manifold the other night and cylinder 1 2 4 all have white carbon on them very little but 3 has none. Like clean almost as if nothing was burning dunno any idea?

Just wondering if this could be a symptom.

It's possible that's related to the injector. I've also seen weak fuel pumps cause all sorts of issues, and even bad injector clips giving intermittent fuel. It can even be the ecu, where channel #3 burned out.

Pull the rail out of the manifold, zip tie the injectors in, then put each injector into a plastic cup or bottle. Crank the motor over until several times and compare how much fuel is in each cup. That's the best place to start before throwing parts at it. A noid light clipped to the ecu wire (negative) while the injector is still connected will help diagnose some other possibilities.

Would suggest to have the injectors tested, cleaned, and re-tested. This might rule them out as the cause of your problems. If I remember correctly, not only the amount of fuel but also the spray pattern is of importance to the effectiveness of an injector.

Another guess would be to measure spark plug gap size if you recently changed your plugs.

Do you have pics of said "white carbon" I thought burned oil was more like a chalky brown.
