High compression F2B turbo
« on: August 01, 2013, 02:06:11 PM »

Well time for a new build. Some of you already know the game plan but for those that dont it will be dirty dirty cheap!

The motor is a f23, k20a2 rods and pistons, block has been shaved .020 to bring the pistons up to deck. Comp should be around 10:5 or 11 when done. The head is a stock f22a1 non vtec head.

Enough talk onto the pic's!

Best way to start a new build with lots of box's full of goodies.

Big thanks to Hiprofile for coming through on these brackets for the home made F2B!

All new gaskets, bearings, timeing belt, oil sandwich and turbo manifold.

K20a2 piston and rods

Home made balance shaft eliminator.

Fresh block ready to go!

Plasti gauge came out perfect

You can never have enough LUBE!

More to come!

Thanks for answering my balance shaft questions. It cost me $10 to compete :Jew:

Evo8/9 turbo and manifold. Those FP turbo are $$$$

this should turn out nice...... ;DDD

I hope soooooo much to do and sooo little time. Motor is still apart and it needs to be ready to race on the 10 and 11th of this month.....

Time for another update.

So the night started with some beer and a f22a1 head with untold miles. Game plan was to tear it down, lap the valves, new valve seals and put it back together. After 2 hours she was all done.

Lapping valves the easy way, vac tube and a drill

Test fitting the manifold, sooo close just a little re-drilling and should be good to go!

New rod bearing should be in tonight. Finishing the motor tomorrow morning and hoplefully swapping it in this weekend if all goes well. Wish me luck!

That's in the works, however they're easy enough to eyeball. The rear plate needs to be 3/8" thick exactly (or 1/4" with 1/8" shims), and the tubes (or stack of washers!) for the upper trans/block bracket is a hair over 48mm IIRC. I've heard of people running this H2B method with the H/S unbolted flapping in the wind, so 2 bolts each is more than enough. Just make sure it's located exactly half way between the upper & lower angles that it binds. And don't use an automatic halfshaft.

I'm surprised Brian likes this, I figured he'd just rage about how pwesome the H-trans is.

So a few people already know I ran into some bearing size issues with the k20a2 and the f23 crank. Might be a internet myth or might be some funky k-series stuff, not quite sure yet and time is against me. So for now its a stock f22b2 block with a f22a6 head and same turbo setup.

Dead line is to have it driving by wed but only time will show if we can have it running.

Ok here was my issue. Hf gauge was all I had at hand.

First up manifold

Match up the gasket and mark out what I needed to do.

Evo 8 manifold

Issue with k20a2 rod

PRB

F23

PAA

So I found out K20a3, a4 and a5 rods have their own diameter (48mm).  K24a1 and K20a2 have their own (51mm). Looks like I can get away with using k20a3 rods with the k20a2 pistons.

What do you plan to do regarding the piston pin offset? F22 (and i believe f23) pistons are typically offset roughly .9mm to the intake side (side where the crank comes up). K pistons if offset would be towards the exhaust side of the engine. You'd probably want to check that. If there is offset, you are limited to either running nearly 2mm offset in the wrong direction (= noisy diesel like engine from piston rock) or you can clay the assembly to see if your intake valves clear into the exhaust reliefs. May need to have reliefs cut.

I ran into the same issue when I was going to do a high compression F22/f23 build. I found that G4KF (Genesis 2 pistons) are nearly PERFECT. BEEFY ringlands, 30mm compression height, 22mm floating wrist pin, 86mm stock bore. It is however around a 3.5-4.5cc dish. On a bored f22 with F22 rods that would equate to a 10:1 compression ratio. ON an F23 (with F23 rods +.5mm) that'd be about 10.7:1.

I however am a tad uneasy about doing a 10:1 compression ratio turbo. May just use hypereutectic (speed-pro) stock pistons and keep the 8.8:1 ratio). Also, didn't really want to mess with recutting valve reliefs or running them backwards.

Ran into more set backs then I have ever had... Also had knee surgery and school started up. I'm still going to finish the project it's just a matter of time!

Ever heard of vitaras lol I'm going to run them backwards and crank the boost! These motors and pistons are soooooo dirt cheap I don't care about cranking the boost to nog

Yes, the thrust loads are fucked in $5 junkyard motors.  Very few of which will live long enough for all that sideloading to egg a bore.

Pick something else to be OCD about.

UPDATE TIME!

Well as some know the clutch on my dd stroker D17 died so I desisted the time had come to swap the F2b in.

Pic time!

Front of block drilled

I mock everything up a few times to make sure I didnt cut more then was needed.

This weekend was below freezing but that didnt stop me. Work in progress!

Lil 5.0 action to the side. Its going into a 89 volvo 240!

Had to grind a bit more to clear the half shaft and the slave.

After a hour of grinding she was all done!

Quick mock up of the evo turbo and manifold. Alt is going to be LOW.

I think I have the wrong t- bracket

So my two current issues. 1 the rear bracket is wrong. Not sure what I have... the other is on the trans mount itself. The bolt that is closest to the battery broke off.... so the mount only has the front two bolts. I think if I run the trans bracket I will be fine.
