AWD colt build thread son...
« on: August 27, 2010, 12:31:26 PM »

I havent been on here in forever so I thought I would post up some shit i have been doing to entertain myself. BTW DSM's are a pain in the ass... I am just copying over my build thread from another forum

Well i picked her up about a month or so ago from colorado. I actually knew this car from back home in Indiana about 5 years ago before I joined the military. I didnt even realize that this was the same car because it had been tossed around through alot of people. It has been in Texas, Indiana, Ohio, Colorado, and now California. I have another colt that I was building to be a beast but decided to discontinue that build and pursue this awd colt. I have already took everything out of my FWD colt and put the 1.6 back in with a toned down setup. I am eventually going to put my built 2.0 liter in the AWD but I am going to wait until this motor pops first. I am also going to get a built tranny and twindisk setup when I can get some funds together. Anyways, I have been doing some work over the past month so I thought i would start a build thread on it...Enjoy

This is the engine bay when I first got it.

First thing I did was strip it out and take out the 3Aracing seats.

Found some pink spray paint ;) Decided to decorate the fuel cell

Picked up some used Sparco Fighter Seats to replace the 3Aracing seats. I got them for $350 which is fairly cheap and they are in pretty good condition. The brackets actually turned out to be pretty easy and the install went smooth. I picked up some new harness's and got those installed as well.  I think it turned out pretty decent. I also spray painted the inside of the car black to touch up the rough spots.

Everybody needs a little dashboard jesus in there life.

I picked up this holset setup from a guy on dsmlink from Ohio for $850 shipped! Its a custom DSM flange Topmount/38mm flange with HX40 pro 6 blade w/ Coated BEP housing. This will be my first Holset setup so I am curious to see how it performs.  Downpipe came with it but I made a different one so I could run a side exit out of the bumper.

Some test fitment

Pulled the front end off and took the intercooler setup off. This intercooler that I pulled off is a beast. Got the wastegate installed and the battery pulled out so it can be installed in the back.

Got the battery box mounted and wires ran. I am going to install the cutoff on the rear bumper in the near future.

Welding up some radiator brackets for my Afco custom size radiator. I also got my new oil drain made up and installed.

I made my new downpipe for the side exit out of the bumper. It actually turned out pretty nice. The radiator fitment worked out perfectly and got that installed.

Now on to the heat exchanger for my air to water intercooler setup.  I made some brackets for the bottom and used the top brackets from my other car. It sits real nice and fills the bumper cut otu hole just right.

Last night I spent the whole night finished up all the plumbing and getting the full air to water setup installed. I started it up and its nearing completion. I need to install my new catch can/valve cover too. My next steps will be to finish the interior and figure out what gauge setup I am going to use.  Lots more to come and hopefully some timeslips soon! Let me know what you guys think.

-David

I actually got this finished last weekend and took it out for some pulls and did some tuning. After about 10 pulls my oil leak got a lot worse and started spewing out of the oil pan. I started pulling the oil pan and had to take out the transfer case and the intermediate shaft. I got pissed and said screw and pulled the whole motor out. I need to put my built one in anyways and this was a reason to do it.  I also just bought a used PTT twin disk, scatter shield, FIC 1600's for E85, and COP setup to thrown on with the new motor. So when that shit gets here or at least when the twin disk does I will throw this thing back together.  I hope to be on the dyno and the track within a few weeks. I also picked up some drag dr17's to throw some hoosiers on as well. But I am fucking broke now so that will have to wait until I can afford the tires. I will get some updated pics on here later.

All csms are like that. There's a bar under the cowl to connect the pedal on a hinge.

Not a fan of the awd colts personally. By the time you get everything fab'd up, you could have simply gutted an awd dsm, and been about the same weight. A fwd with proper suspension/tires, and significantly less weight is prefered. Not trying to bash you or your car, just seams like a waste of time/money to me. But to each their own.

Hope your not tuning with sLiDerbaRRz....ditch the maf and grab you an ostrich and run jackal.

I am on link and running Speed density.  I actually just got my map and iat in the mail. I didnt do the awd swap, I bought it with it already done. So it wasnt a waste for me and I got it cheap. The 1g's are like boats too. I love the colts because they resemble the size of civic hatch's, I actually have two. My other one is a fwd GT with 88k original miles. Dont get me wrong though I love turbo hondas. I actually hope on finishing my EG si this weekend fingers crossed  :-X

I like it way better then a talon/eclipse POS.  Nothing better then laying the boosted fuck stomp on somebody with the unsuspecting fucking ugly ass hatch (although the cage and seats make it not so unsuspecting)

I thought so but then I thought maybe I was missing out on a pimp winter beater. I try to keep my awd info on lock down.

Alright so got this thing all put together and went out for about 10-15 pulls and sprung a huge oil leak.  Oil was all over the back of the car and the underside. I think it is coming from the oil pan gasket underneath the crank pulley but IDK. The couple of pulls I did get in though were pretty quick.  I started to pull the oil pan and had to take the transfer case and driver side axle out. I ended up saying screw it and pulled the motor because i needed to anyways to put my built motor in.  I was really only using the motor as a mock up engine to install everything else.  So I got the motor pulled out and bought some new goodies to put on.  I am waiting on those parts to come in and I will be putting everything back on.  I bought a used PTT twin disk, COP setup, scatter shield, fic 1600's, and speed desnity sensors and pigtails.  I am going to go ahead and make the swing to speed density and E85 with the new motor. I also went ahead and powerwashed the car to clean up the engine bay and get rid of all the oil that was all underneath the car and the back of it.  As of now i am waiting on the twin disk so I can put the motor back in. Tick...tick...toc.....

Motor coming out

My built 2.0 wiseco's and eagle's. fp2's

Powerwashed it to clean it up some

New COP setup and scatter shield

AWD colts are sick! My father owned a 200E sedan, i always loved that thing, and I had bought a mint (in the drivetrain) 1990 TSi AWD talon last year, was so horned up to do something, but no monies= selling it.

GANGSTER MAN!

I actually saw a stock sky/metallic blue 200GT hatch the other day!

Well finally got my twin disk in....got the engine in the car and it starts up and moves. I have lots of random stuff to do to get it finished. I need to get a plastic 55 gallon drum so i can store E85 in the garage. I put the 780's back in for now and kept the GM maf on to get it going.  I am going to covert it over to speed density soon. I should have some more updates soon as I finish piecing this car together. I am going to Vegas on Friday for so have to take a small break.

New motor is
6 bolt block bored .020 over
New crank at time of build
Wiseco 9:1 compression Pistons
Eagle H-beam Rods
ARP Head studs, main studs
Fel-Pro Performance headgasket
Head was ported on intake and exhaust side
Manley valve springs
New valves at time of build
Forced Performance FP2X cams
Balance shaft removed
New oil pump
New water pump
New lifters

Got the PTT in the mail finally took a month to get here from a guy I bought it from....

Motor finally in...

Only the best of fluids....

Got these from a 1g that I picked to part out. I definately like the way these look on the colt.  They need some beefier tires though.

Was a new VC gasket too expensive or not availible? :P

I don't know about that MT-90. Some people I know had trannies get worse after that. Synchromesh friction modified seems work great in comparison. If it works in DSM's, rock out with your cock out I guess.
