Title: thinking of making a groove for a copper wire on a 38mm WG flange
Post by: DSharp on April 03, 2017, 08:21:18 PM
ok so i have an adapter like this
(https://www.extremepsi.com/store/images/D/023-2.JPG)

Gonna open up the id of the two flanges to match the pipe id, going to open it up from 1.500 to 1.610.  Shitty part is the ID of all the flange gaskets I have are smaller than the id of the flanges I think they are around 1.4"
I figured i might machine a ring groove in the adapter's flange and use a piece of cut and filed copper wire as the gasket.  Also been thinking of turning a continuous aluminum ring, but aluminum will be getting real damn soft at those temps.

Any of you fuckers ever done anything like this?

It will either be brilliant or it will leak.  Let's find out.

By now your wondering why I machined off the original flange and welded on a new one.  Its because the adapter's flange was like 1/4" smaller than the wastegate flange.  They are supposed to both be the same but that what you get from chinabay parts.  I will also have to machine a new valve seat because the original one was to short to actually seat against the valve from the factory, haha.

Got it done seems ok so far.  Got a new valve seat turned too.
